A narrative inquiry on the recovery experience of drug addicts in DARC(Drug Addiction Rehabilitation Center)

Abstract
This study is the narrative inquiry to understand the experiences of the lives of recovering drug addicts who maintain abstinence more than three month and live in Drug Addiction Rehabilitation Center for recovery. For this purpose, the consented four drug addicts, who recovering participated. Various observation and the data of in-depth interviews were conducted with four participants. Collected research data were analyzed using the narrative inquiry method suggested by Clandinin and Connelly(2000). Commom features found in participants¡¯ narrative were reconstituted into three themes. The first theme entitled ¡®Rebuilding a shattered life¡¯. The second theme entitled ¡®Meeting a significant others who become the spark of recovery¡¯. The third theme entitled, ¡®Overcoming desperation and expecting return to daily life¡¯. This study is meaningful in that it reconstructed the story through narrative inquiry of their recovery experiences at this time when there is no study on the recovering drug addicts who living in the Drug Addiction Rehabilitation Center for recovery. It is expected that the results will be used as useful data for treatment and recovery. Based on the study findings, discussion was made on the directions of the social policy and practical interventions for the recovery and rehabilitation of drug addicts.
